Betting Review for Week 5 of College Football

Week 5 of the college football regular season has come to a close. Here is a review of how things turned out for bettors.

The favorites were 46-16 straight up and 27-33-2 against the spread. At home, teams were 40-22 SU and 30-30-1 ATS. The over/under for the week ended 34-28 to the OVER.

Underdogs with the largest spread to win outright were South Alabama (+19.5) 43-24 over San Diego State, Northwestern (+11) 38-31 over Iowa and North Carolina (+10.5) 37-35 over Florida State.

The four largest favorites to cover the number were Ohio State (-39) 58-0 over Rutgers, Auburn (-32) 58-7 over Louisiana-Monroe, Houston (-27) 42-14 over Connecticut and Texas Tech (-28) 55-19 over Kansas.

Top 25 Highlights

Clemson jumped out to a 28-10 halftime lead over Louisville but squandered that to trail with just over 7:00 minutes to play. However, Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes in a 4-minute span to rally the Tigers over the Cardinals in a battle of two teams in the top 5.

Clemson started the season 0-2 ATS, but has now covered three straight. The OVER was the first all season out of the five Clemson games. The OVER has cashed in each of the five games Louisville has played.

Michigan beat Wisconsin in Ann Arbor 14-7. It was the first time the UNDER has cashed in five games for Michigan this season. It was the first time in five games Michigan did not score 45 or more points. For Wisconsin, the UNDER has cashed in 4 of 5 games.

Georgia lost to Tennessee 34-31. The Bulldogs scored a touchdown pass of 47 yards with only 10 seconds remaining to take a 31-28 lead. However, a penalty for excessive celebration allowed Tennessee to return the ensuing kickoff to midfield.

Joshua Dobbs stepped up and launched a Hail Mary from midfield that Jauan Jennings caught for a touchdown that stunned the Georgia crowd and gave the win to the Volunteers.

Washington vs. Stanford did not live up to its marquee billing as the Huskies easily defeated the Cardinal 44-6.

Florida State lost on Saturday to North Carolina 37-35 on a 54-yard field goal. The loss snapped Florida State’s home winning streak at 22 games.

Miami beat Georgia Tech 35-21 thanks to two defensive touchdowns and the Hurricanes are now 4-0 SU and ATS.
